In online bag sales you can add products to your sales channel in two ways: entering each product by hand, or automatically importing your supplier’s XML product feed with an integration tool. Which is right depends on your product count, how many channels you sell on and how quickly stock changes.
What is an XML product feed?
XML is a file in which a supplier provides product information (name, description, image links, price, stock, colour, barcode and so on) in a structured format. The file is updated regularly. Integration software or your e-commerce platform’s import feature reads this file and imports products into your website or marketplace store. Because the file updates when stock changes, stock on your channel updates too.
Manual product upload
You add each product to your sales channel yourself: entering title, description, photos, price and stock one by one, and updating stock by hand when it changes.
Comparison
| Criterion | Manual upload | XML integration |
|---|---|---|
| Set-up | No set-up needed | Requires an integration tool and initial configuration |
| Time | Time spent per product | Many products imported quickly |
| Stock accuracy | Depends on manual updates | Updated regularly and automatically |
| Error risk | High risk of typos and stock errors | Low if the source data is correct |
| Content originality | You can write every product in your own words | Default text comes in; editing takes extra work |
| Cost | Time cost | The integration tool may charge a fee |
When does manual upload make sense?
- When you are starting with a small number of products.
- When you want original descriptions and your own photos for every product.
- When you sell on a single channel.
- When products are in your own stock and stock changes rarely.
When does XML integration make sense?
- When your product count has grown and managing it by hand takes too long.
- When you sell the same products on several channels. We cover this in selling bags on marketplaces.
- When you sell without stock: when supplier stock changes, your channel must update immediately.
- When the supplier adds new products frequently.
Things to watch with integration
- Update frequency: Find out how often stock is refreshed; with an infrequently updated feed you may sell out-of-stock items.
- Pricing rule: Set a rule that adds commission, shipping and your margin to the supplier price. See our article on profit margin in bag sales.
- Category mapping: Map supplier categories correctly to your channel’s categories.
- Enriching content: Other sellers may use the same XML. Editing titles and descriptions in your own words reduces the look of duplicate content. See our tips in how to write a bag product description.
- Safety margin: A rule that removes a product from sale at the last few units reduces cancellations caused by stock gaps.
The hybrid approach
Many sellers import all products quickly via XML and then manually enrich the titles, descriptions and photos of their best-sellers. This saves time while making standout products different from competitors.
Çanta Bayim XML dealership
Çanta Bayim dealers can use a dealer-specific XML link containing product information, images and stock. Orders are placed as single units at dealer prices and shipped directly to the customer. See our bag XML dealership page for details and the dealer application page to apply.
